Enyimba’s Theophilus Afelokhai Replaces Uzoho For South Africa, Uganda Clashes

Enyimba’s Theophilus Afelokhai has been handed his maiden Nigeria call-up after first-choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was ruled out for upcoming games against South Africa and Uganda.

On Monday, Spanish outfit Elche confirmed Uzoho will be sidelined for four weeks after suffering a fracture to the rib on the back of their heavy 5-1 defeat to Cadiz in Sunday’s Segunda encounter.

And coach Gernot Rohr has extended a call-up to Afelokhai who was a bright spark in the People’s Elephants’ Caf Confederation Cup campaign.

The former Kano Pillars safe-hands will battle for the no. 1 spot with club teammate, Ikechuwku Ezenwa – whom interestingly is behind the 30-year-old in the club’s pecking order – and Chippa United’s Daniel Akpeyi.
