EU Says Trump’s Middle East Peace Plan Violates International Agreement

The European Union has said that Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan for Israel and Palestine contradicts “internationally agreed parameters”.

Europe’s new foreign affairs chief, Josep Borrell, who made the disclosure in Jordan, said the plan was not workable since both parties were not part of its framing.

“To build a just and lasting peace, the unresolved final status issues must be decided through direct negotiations between both parties.

“We are very much aware that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the longest, most painful and complex conflicts in our history,” he added.

Borrell also warned that the solution to the issue is not in view if plans are made without the parties involved agreeing on the terms.

“The experience over the last 50 years has shown that, without agreement among all sides, no peace plan has a chance to succeed.”

THE WHISTLER reported that the peace plan announced by Trump recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s “undivided capital” as well as Israeli sovereignty over settlement blocs in the occupied West Bank; the plan also stated that Palestine would base its capital in Eastern Jerusalem with 50 billion dollars for the development of the nation.

But the President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas rejected the peace plan, saying that “it is impossible for any Palestinian child or Arab or Muslim or Christian to accept this.”

France foreign ministry had also issued a statement, saying that the plan should capture the desires of Israel and Palestine.

“France welcomes President Trump’s efforts and will carefully study the peace plan he presented,”

“A two-state solution, in conformity with international law and internationally-agreed parameters is necessary for the establishment of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.

“It will remain attentive to respecting and taking into account the legitimate aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians.”

Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu had lauded Trump for the plan, adding that it is the basis for peace.

The previous plan moderating the Israeli-Palestine issues was the Oslo Accords of 1993 signed in Washington DC.

The plan among other things, created a Palestinian Authority tasked with limited self-governance of parts of the West Bank and Gaza Strip; but did not create a Palestinian state
