EU To Review Racism Laws, Get Tougher On Enforcement, Says Commission

The European Union Commission says it will amend its racial equality laws so as to tighten measures against racists on the continent, particularly amongst member states.

EU Commission President, Ursula Von Der Leyen, tweeted about this on Wednesday.

The commission is the executive arm of the EU.

Among others things, it is responsible for proposing legislation and carrying out decisions of the body.

Leyen said that hate, in whatever form, was inhumane.

Leyen added that racism was manifesting in critical sectors in Europe.

She gave the assurance that the EU would channel part of its budget to addressing issues of discrimination.

Her tweet reads:

“Hate is hate – and no one should have to put up with it.

“We put forward an action plan against racism.

“We’ll strengthen our racial equality laws.

“We’ll use our budget to address discrimination in areas like employment, housing or healthcare.

“We will get tougher on enforcement.”
