Ex-CBN Governor Adamu Ciroma Dies At 84

Elder statesman and ex-Minister of Finance, Malam Adamu Ciroma is dead.

The deceased was finance minister under the first term of President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration from 1999 to 2003.

Ciroma was also the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN between September 1975 and June 1977 and was one of the founding members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He died on Thursday at the Turkish Hospital, Abuja, aged 84.

In 1979, Ciroma was one of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) presidential aspirants who contested in the party’s presidential primary. He came third in the primary, behind Shehu Shagari and Maitama Sule.

He was also minister of Agriculture and Managing Director of New Nigerian newspapers.
