Ex-Interior Minister, Moro, Alleges Assassination Attempt On His Life

Speaking at a press conference in Otukpo, Moro, who is a top supporter of former Senate President, David Mark, further alleged that the assassination attempt was also targeted at other supporters of Mark.

The immediate past Senate President is seeking to win the February 13 Benue South Senatorial re-run election.

According to Moro, the attempt to assassinate him and a businesswoman, who is the wife of an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) electoral officer, was foiled last Saturday by the Nigeria Police at Ugbokolo, Benue State.

He however, vowed that he will not be deterred by intimidation from any person or groups of persons to mobilise support for the re-election of David Mark.

While explaining the assassination attempt on his life, Moro said the gunmen came to his house at Ugbokolo in a white Toyota Camry car at about 11p.m, and demanded to know whether he was in.

He said the police responded swiftly as the assassins were arrested by policemen with guns and other dangerous weapons.

Meanwhile, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised the alarm over alleged plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to unleash fake soldiers and police on the area to manipulate the election.

In a statement, the state Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, said that APC had started recruiting armed thugs who would disguise as soldiers or policemen to cover the election, alleging that vigilante groups are being asked to forward their measurements for the proposed army and police uniforms and size of shoes, which they would adorn on election day to do the APC’s bidding.
