Ex-UNILAG Professor Duro Ajeyalemi Dies From COVID-19

Former Dean of Students Affairs, and retired professor of science education at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Duro Ajeyalemi has reportedly died due to COVID-19.

The professor was said to have passed on at an isolation centre on Wednesday in Lagos State.

The death of the 70-year-old academic comes barely three days after the former vice-chancellor of UNILAG, Oye Ibidapo-Obe, died of complications arising from COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the Lagos chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) on Wednesday announced the death of the younger brother of Obafemi Hamzat, the state deputy governor.

Haroun Hamzat, 37 years old, died of COVID-19 complication.

Until his death, he worked at a primary healthcare centre in Orile Agege Local Council Development Area of the state.

Lagos State has remained at the top of the table of states recording rising covid-19 infections.

As of Tuesday, the state recorded 712 cases of the virus, and a total of 32,687 confirmed cases since the outbreak in 2021.
