Ex-US Soldier Kidnapped in Ekiti As Hoodlums Kill One

Hoodlums struck in Ekiti State on Tuesday killing one person and abducting two others, including a retired United States army officer, Major Jide Ijadare.

The hoodlums carried out the attack along Ijan Ekiti–Ise Ekiti Road in Ijan Ekiti.

Our correspondent gathered that the abductors came to the oil processing factory owned by the retired army officer and shot dead the victim whose Identity was not known as at the time of filing the report.

Sources said the dead victim was a worker at the factory who they said might have wanted to prevent his boss from being whisked away by the kidnappers.

Having shot dead the victim, the abductors were said to have bundled Ijadare and the other victim into their car and sped off.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, Mr Sunday Abutu, confirmed the abduction and the killing.

He said, ” The kidnappers shot dead one person. And we can confirm to you that a retired US soldier was kidnapped around 2.00 pm today and one other person.”

He added that the Police Commissioner, Tunde Mobayo, had deployed policemen in the state.

“We are combing the bushes at the area where they escaped. The long arms of the law will catch up with them and we will rescue the victims.”
