Excitement As FCT Approves New Retirement Age For Teachers

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has approved 65 years retirement age for teachers in the FCT.

Years of service have also been pegged at 40 years by the administration.

This was captured in a notification sent to Teachers on Tuesday and seen by our correspondent.

“Dear Comrades,
An approval for the 65 years new retirement age/40 years of service for Teachers in FCT have just been handed over to NUT FCT Chairman, by the DHRM of FCTA on behalf of the Hon. Minister of FCT.
Congratulations to the Teachers in FCT,” the notification reads.

The development is on the backdrop of a bill sent to the National Assembly by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration on June 2, 2021.

The bill sought to harmonize teacher’s retirement age and years of service including an improved remuneration package.

The House of Representatives subsequently passed the bill on November 10 and the development drew commendation from authorities of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT).
