Facebook Flagged 167 Million Posts For False Information On Covid-19

Washington based Facebook Inc. flagged 167 million user posts between March to November for using covid-19 related information debunked by its fact-checkers, the company said.

The company disclosed this in its  Quarterly Community Standards report.

The report shows the amount of content the company removes for rule violations.

Facebook had in March this year warned users against violating its policies on Covid-19 related falsehood.

The company also said it removed 12 million user posts totally from its Facebook platform and Instagram over information on the pandemic which could lead to physical harm.

For the first time the social media company released information on hate speech, saying that hate speech content accounts for 0.11 per cent of all content views on the platform.

The company said it removed or flagged 22.1 million hate speech related posts in the third quarter of this year alone.

Facebook also said it noted 95 per cent of the affected posts before users reported them.

The company also removed or flagged millions of posts in categories like spam, harassment and bullying.
