Facebook Messenger Hits One Billion Monthly Active Users

Facebook on Thursday announced that it now boast one billion monthly active users on its Messenger platform.

The social media giant made the announcement via a blogpost, noting that more innovations and updates for the service are on the way.

“Today we are announcing that more than one billion people now use Facebook Messenger every month, making Messenger one of only a handful of apps worldwide that touch so many lives,” the company said.

“We know that every message is important to you, no matter what you want to say, and our team is committed to building experiences you love and to making all the interactions in your life easier no matter who you are communicating with.”

The Menlo Park, California company further revealed that more than a billion messages are sent between people and businesses each month via Messenger – which is now home to more than 18,000 chatbots.

As a form of celebration, Facebook has now made it possible to send a shower of balloons inside the app.

Facebook Messenger’s latest milestone places it among the most popular apps in the world – alongside Facebook and WhatsApp (which is also owned by the social network company).

This comes after Facebook announced last month its photo-sharing app Instagram had reached 500 million users.
