Facebook To Rival LinkedIn With New Feature

The new service, which could be described as a job portal for companies and job seeker, when launched, will be in direct competition with employment-oriented social networking service, LinkedIn.

The new feature will make businesses’ news feed a recruiting window, where jobs can be posted and candidates enlisted.

“Based on behavior we’ve seen on Facebook, where many small businesses post about their job openings on their Page, we’re running a test for Page admins to create job postings and receive applications from candidates,” a Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch.

Admins can include details of the job title, salary and whether it’s full-time or part-time. As well as showing up as a post on a Page, all available vacancies posted to a Facebook page can be viewed under the Jobs tab.

Submitted applications will be received as a Facebook Message, keeping the whole process on the Facebook platform. Businesses wanting to give their job listings an extra push can also pay to promote them.

Many companies already informally vet candidates via their social media accounts as well as posting job adverts on Facebook, but the move marks a closer link between the company and the job market, and a challenge to LinkedIn.

Facebook recently made further moves into the professional world by launching Workplace, a special version of the social network for inter-office communication.
