Facebook Unveils New Mobile Notifications Tab

Social media giant, Facebook, has rolled out personalised notifications tab for iOS and Android users.

Mobile notifications will now surface personalized information such as your friends’ birthdays and other important life events, as well as information about upcoming events you’ve joined.

This was contained in a statement issued by Facebook’s product manager Keith Peiris, via the company’s official page.

Peiris said that users will mostly see between five and seven different cards at any given time, the goal of the cards, he says, is to provide a more personalized experience, and users will be able to fine-tune the types of cards they view, or disable them completely.

“Today, we are starting to roll out an expanded, personalized notifications tab in the Facebook app.

“We’ve heard feedback that people wanted to add important information that they can easily see, all in one place.

“Along with your notifications, you can see and customize timely info.

“To make the most out of Facebook’s new notifications tab, it seems you will have to enable location services, giving Facebook information as to your whereabouts. That might make some users hesitant to try the feature, even if it means not getting these new personalized, location-based notifications.”

Instead of a simple list, mobile notifications are now organized as cards, you can tailor or add more cards based on your Facebook activity and location.

Previously, Facebook’s mobile notifications tab consisted of an ongoing list of updates in chronological order.

Facebook has started rolling out this new feature to U.S. users on both iOS and Android.
