Fans Hail Messi’s Performance Against Saint-Eteinne

Paris Saint-German and one of the world’s finest players in history, Lionel Messi, has again captured the attention of the football world after helping the club secure three goals against Saint-Eteinne.

The match which took place a day to the long awaited 2021 Ballon d’Or award ended 1-3 with PSG winning the game from behind.

St-Etienne’s Denis Bouanga open the score sheet in the 23rd minute, but Marquinhos levelled the game courtesy of a through pass from Messi in the 47th minute of the first half.

Angel Di Maria also found the back of the net after a brilliant pass from the former Barcelona man.

Marquinhos found his brace following a cross from Messi in the 91st minute of play.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has been trending on Twitter for weeks after news broke that he has been contacted by the organisers of the competition, France Football.

The Ballon d’Or 2021 is scheduled to take place at the Chatelet Theatre in the French capital of Paris on 29 November.

Messi has won six of the award, while his closest rival Cristiano Ronaldo has five.

Since Messi won his first with Barcelona in 2009, the Argentine has become synonymous to the award.

He ended his spell at Barcelona scoring 28 goals for Barcelona between January and May. He finished his season at Barcelona with 38 goals in all competition.

The Argentina led his team to Copa America where he won his first after three previous defeats.

Although he has been tipped to lift he prestigious ward, the Argentine has to contend with Robert Lewandowski, who has scored 82 goals for Bayern Munich and Poland since the start of the 2020-21 season.

Premier League top scorer Mohamed Salah, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Chelsea’s Jorginho, who won the Champions League and Euro 2021 with Italy are all front-runners.

Responding to the Argentine’s fifth hattrick of assist, @Ziad_EJ tweeted, “Lionel Messi purposely wanted to give 3 assists today before the Ballon d’Or tomorrow. He’s ready to collect his 7th Ballon D’or, and he did it with style, Hattrick style.”
