Fayose Accused Of Taking Contract Kickbacks, To Remain In EFCC Custody For 2 Weeks

There are indications that the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, may spend at least two weeks in custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to reports, the EFCC has secured a court order from the Federal High Court in Abuja to detain Fayose for the next two weeks as it intensifies investigations into allegations that the former governor allegedly received N1.3 billion from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) through ex-defence minister, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, in 2014

The former governor was alleged to have used the said sum for his re-election bid in 2014.

“We have obtained a court order to hold Fayose for at least two weeks pending investigation. He could be released earlier or later than two weeks depending on the outcome of investigation,” Punch quoted a source in the Commission as saying.

It was equally learnt that the EFCC is also probing Fayose for allegedly receiving kickbacks from government contractors through his aide, Abiodun Agbele.

“We have many cases against Fayose being handled by three different teams. We cannot just arraign him immediately. We want to do a thorough job before taking him to court,” said the source.

Meanwhile, the former governor, whose two-term tenure as governor of Ekiti State expired on October 16, is said to have denied receiving any money from Obanikoro to fund his re-election in 2014.
