Fayose ‘Blackmailing’ Buhari Into Quitting Politics At 77, Says Boroffice

Governor Ayodele Fayose has been accused by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Science and Technology, Prof Robert Boroffice, of ‘blackmailing’ President Muhammadu Buhari into quitting politics in 2019, when he will be 77 years of age.

Boroffice’s statement follows Governor Fayose’s birthday message to President Buhari on Saturday, where he called on the president to honourably resign from politics at the end of his first term in office.

The governor had urged the president to consider his age and agility by stepping down in 2019.

But Boroffice kicked against Fayose’s advisory, saying President Buhari has the “right to to seek re-election” and which must be respected by every citizen.

“The advice from Gov. Ayodele Fayose that Mr President should not consider seeking re-election due to age consideration should be ignored,” said the Senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District.

“Mr president cannot be blackmailed and his right to to seek re-election should be respected by every Nigerian who believes in the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ( as amended).

“Indeed, advanced age is not a liability but an asset. Also, septuagenarian level does not in anyway suggest a chink in the armour but it radiates gutsiness,” he said.
