FCTA Raids Road Side Traders, Seizes 79 Rams

The Ministerial task team on the free flow of traffic across the Federal Capital Territory has seized 79 rams from roadside traders along the popular Dutse Alhaji market in Bwari Area council of the FCT.

According to the chairman of the team, Ikharo Attah, the decision to seize the rams followed a seven-day sustained pleading with the sellers which proved abortive.

On arrival at the roadside market the team, led by the Tpl Kaka Bello of the Abuja environmental protection Board disclosed that the sellers had moved the rams into premises of Federal Civil Service Colleagues located along Kubwa expressway.

The team further noted that an illegal mini Abattoir has been installed at the back premises of the institute where rams are slaughtered and roasted for Buyers.

Attah while speaking to journalist explained that the ram traders were insisting that the market has been there for long, arguing that they needed much time to move the herds to a more appropriate place for business.

He, however, warned the market managers not to give out car parks to traders for selling purposes thus making buyers resort in roadside parking which leads to traffic gridlock.

Attah also stressed that the roadside trading would not be allowed as it does not only affect the free flow of traffic but also paint and give a bad notion about Abuja.
