FG Appoints 37-Man Tripartite Committee On National Minimum Wage

Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has inaugurated the committee to recommend the new minimum wage for workers across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The committee is made up of 37 members, who have been charged to timely submit their new suggested minimum wage for the country in compliance with the existing National Minimum Wage Act of 2019.

Recall THE WHISTLER reported discussion for a new minimum wage was stalled as the federal government is yet to appoint a new Labour minister.

Shettima at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday, presided over the inauguration of the committee and said the committee would be chaired by the former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Goni Bukar Aji.

He also disclosed that a thorough process was implemented in choosing members of the committee and it is made up of members of organised labour, the private sector, the state and the federal governments.

Members of the committee from the Federal Government, include Hon. Minister of State, Labour and Employment (Representing Hon. Minister of Labour and Employment); Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edunand Minister of Budget Economic Planning, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu.

Others are Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Yemi Esan; Permanent Secretary, GSO. OSGF Dr. Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri, and Chairman/CEO, NSIWC – Member/Secretary.Ekpo Nta.

From the states, representing North Central the Governor of Niger State Alh. Mohammed Umar Bago; North East representative, Governor Bauchi State, Sen. Bala Mohammed and North West representative, Governor Katsina State Alh. Umar Dikko Radda.

Others are South East representative Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo; the South West Governor of Osun State Sen. Ademola Adeleke and the Cross River State Mr. Otu Bassey Edet, who will be representing the South-South.

From the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) – Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, Director-General, NECA; Mr. Chuma Nwankwo; Mr. Thompson Akpabio with also members from the Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) include Asiwaju (Dr) Michael Olawale-Cole, National President; Hon. (Dr) Ahmed Rabiu, National Vice President and Chief Humphrey Ngonadi (NPOM), National Life President.

The members from the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprise (NASME) are Dr. Abdulrashid Yerima, President & Chairman of the Council; Hon. Theophilus Nnorom Okwuchukwu, Private Sector representative; Dr. Muhammed Nura Bello, Zonal Vice President, North West.

Also from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) are Mrs. Grace Omo-Lamai, Human Resource Director, Nigerian Breweries; Segun Ajayi-Kadir, mni, Director-General, MAN; Lady Ada Chukwudozie, Managing Director, Dozzy Oil and Gas Limited.

The organised labour member are the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Joe Ajaero, Secretary General, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja; Comrade Prince Adeyanju Adewale; Comrade Ambali Akeem Olatunji; Comrade Benjamin Anthony and Prof. Theophilus Ndukuba.

Also, members from the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) include TUC president Comrade Festus Osifo, Secretary-General Comrade Nuhu A. Toro, Deputy President I Comrade Kayode Surajudeen Alakija, Deputy President II; Comrade Jimoh Oyibo, Deputy President. III, Comrade Tommy Etim Okon, and Chairperson Women Commission. Comrade Hafusatu Shuaib.
