
The Federal Government has fixed June this year as deadline, to commence the clean-up of the environmental pollution in the oil-rich Niger Delta region.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Environment, Mrs. Amina Muhammed, at the National Stakeholders’ Endorsement Workshop for the Reviewed and Updated National Implementation Plan (NIP), for the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, POPs, held in Abuja on Tuesday

Muhammed, who was represented by her Minister of State, Ibrahim Jibril, said that the government was working diligently to review and update its first Implementation Plan, developed in 2009 to address the problem of pollution holistically in the region.
While soliciting the cooperation of all stakeholders, the minister said that experts from the United Nations on Environment will guide the implementation in order to ensure a productive exercise.
