FG To Add 1,206MW To National Grid

This information was disclosed by the minister of Power, Works and Housing, Raji Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday, during a meeting with the French minister of Environment and Power, Mrs S. Royal, alongside the Nigerian minister of Environment Amina Mohammed in Abuja.

The minister said the project would soon commence as plans have reached final stage, adding that the present administration is committed to adopting renewable energy as part of efforts to convert the nation’s numerous challenges to opportunities.

He also emphasised on the need for the establishment of more solar panel factors in Nigeria, saying assembling and manufacturing would cut cost.

According to him, it became necessary to provide adequate incentives in terms of cost to make solar power more attractive and efficient to the people.

“As you mentioned, we are vulnerable today as a nation facing loss of our territorial areas to desert encroachment in the north, a lot of erosion in the eastern part of the country, rising water levels and coastal challenges in the southern part of the country. Perhaps, I doubt if there is any country that has such mixture challenges,” Fashola said.

“President Buhari has continually explained that it is the interest of the Europe and the entire continent of Africa to ensure that we preserve, we renew and we restore Lake Chad for all the communities whose livelihood and sustenance depend on it.”
