FG To Complete Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road By 2023

The President Muhammadu Buhari Administration has said the reconstruction of Abuja-Kaduna-Kano road project will be completed by 2023, a period its tenure will expire.

The Director, Highways Construction and Rehabilitation, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Funso Adebiyi, said this in a statement on Friday during a visit to the project site.

The statement was signed by the Ministry’s Deputy Director, Press, Salisu Haiba.

The project was awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc on December 20, 2017, but commenced on May 21, 2018.

Based on the initial arrangement, the project was initially projected to last for 36 months.

He said, “We are satisfied with the quality of work going on and we are working to increase the pace of work.

“Work is going on simultaneously on all sections of both lanes of the dual carriage 375km long road from Abuja to Kaduna and to Kano.”

The Abuja-Kaduna-Kano was initially approved for rehabilitation, but a full reconstruction of the road was ongoing, according to him.

Adebiyi noted that the reconstruction was necessary over the volume of activities on the infrastructure.

The Director said, “We have made a lot of progress. Over 100km, although not at a stretch, have been completed under section one to three (Abuja-Kano).

“Also, 40km has been completed under section two (Kaduna-Zaria), and 70km completed under section three (Zaria-Kano).”
