FIFA: After Abysmal Performance Against Sierra Leone, Super Eagles Drop To 35th Position In Latest Ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped 3 places down from 32 to 35 in the latest FIFA ranking.

The fall can be traced to their abysmal performance in their recent outing in the AFCON qualifiers where the Super Eagles drew 4-4 with the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in Nigeria and recorded goalless draw in a return leg in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The FIFA World ranking saw some notable movements in positions emanating from the busy international matches from World Cup qualifiers, AFCON qualifiers and UEFA EURO games but the changes were not seen in the first 6 countries at the top namely Belgium, France, Brazil, England, Portugal and Spain.

The six countries still retained their positions from the previous ranking.

In Africa, the Taranga Lions of Senegal moved a point up in the ranking as they entered the top 20 occupying the 20th position while African champions Algeria dropped a spot to take the 31st position.

Tunisia maintained their 26th position, Egypt and Cameroon gained 3 points each to climb to the 49th and 50th position respectively while Ghana dropped 4 points to the 52nd position.

But the biggest climbers in this month’s ranking from the African continent are Equatorial Guinea who gained 10 points to climb to 134th and Burundi who also gained 10 points to move 138th position.
