The apex world football governing body FIFA has approved 14-Week leave for professional female footballers across the globe.
This was confirmed by FIFA president, Gianni Infantino.
In the new rule, players will be guaranteed the leave and also reintegrated back to the team with proper medical backups.
“If we are serious about boosting the women’s game, we have to look at all these aspects.
“Female players need to have stability in their careers and if they take maternity leave, they should not have to worry about when they are ready to play again.”
He also stated the new rule was to ensure proper job stability and security for coaches and players.
“Coaches develop how we play and inspire the players, they too need job security and we have established minimum standards to protect them.”
The new rule will be enforced across the globe and also enshrined in the FIFA rule books.
