FIFA U-17: Eaglets Cruise to Last 16 With a 5-1 Thrashing of Host Chile

The Golden Eaglet’s of Nigeria has qualified from Group A for the next round of the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup, after thrashing host Chile 5-1, at the Estadio Sausalitoto, to maintain a 100 percent start in the competition.

A goal within 30 seconds by Samuel Chukwueze set the ball rolling for the defending champions.

He equaled Wilson Oruma and Kanu Nwankwo’s records for the fastest goal scored by a Nigerian at the FIFA U-17 World Cup tournament.

Kelechi Nwakali made it two from the spot in the 17th minute of the tie, after Chukwueze was fouled in the 18 yard box.

Chukwueze again hit the target in the 61 minute to put the game away from the opponents reach, just as Victor Osimhen double strikes in the 66th and 86th minutes sealed victory for Nigeria.

Marcelo Allende grabbed a consolatory goal for Chile, before Nigeria’s Funsho Bamgboye was shown the red card, but it was a little too late for the host to appease their eighteen million home fans.

The Golden Eaglets joins Korean Republic in the last 16, and play their final group game against Croatia on Friday.
