Finally, INEC Concludes Movement Of Personnel, Election Materials

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said all arrangement are now in place ahead of the presidential and national assembly election tomorrow, Saturday.

Chairman of the commission, Mahmood Yakubu said this on last day of the daily briefing at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

He said the commission has concluded the movement of all personnel and election materials nationwide, adding that the election will kick off at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

He said, “Nigerians will elect a president out of a total of 73 candidates nominated by their political parties.

“Similarly, voters will choose 109 senators out of 1,880 candidates, and 360 members of the house of representatives out of 4,631 candidates.

“Elections will hold in 36 states of the federation and the fct Abuja. Voting will take place in 176,973 location made up of 119,973 polling units and 57,023 voting points.

“We have engaged 825,543 ad–hoc staff ranging from presiding officers to collation and returning officers.

“We have mobilized 80,000 commercial vehicles and about 996 boats for the deployment of personnel and materials.

“The materials include 707, 892 ballot boxes and voting cubicles and we are mobilizing this to various locations by land and sea.

“We have accredited 120 domestic and 36 international organizations, deploying a cumulative number of 73,000 observers.

“We have concluded the movement of personnel and materials to 774 local government areas and 8809 registration area centres nationwide.

“All arrangement are now in place to facilitate the opening of polls at 8am tomorrow.

“Citizens can obtain location direction to their polling units by visiting gotomypu.ng. They will access the location or name of their P.U and a link to a google map that will lead them to the P.U.

“In the last 10 days, about 190,000 voters have utilized the various social media platforms to locate their polling units.”
