FLASHBACK: Video Of How El Chapo Was Captured, Extradited To U.S

Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera, popularly known as El Chapo, was a Mexican drug lord whose notorious criminal career came to an end on Wednesday after a Federal District Court in Brooklyn, United States, sentenced him to life in prison.

El Chapo had eluded federal agents for years – including escaping from a Mexican jail in 2015 – before he was captured days later and extradited to the U.S in 2017.

Besides adding 30 years to his life sentence for unlawful uses of firearms and murder, the court also ordered El Chapo to forfeit $12.6bn (£10bn) to the U.S government.

In February, a federal court in New York charged the 62-year-old drug baron on 10 counts bordering on drug trafficking and money laundering. He was accused of sending hundreds of tons of drugs to the U.S from Mexico.

The video below shows the raids by law Mexican enforcement agents that led to El Chapo’s arrest and eventual extradition to the U.S.
