Flood Kills 12 In Bauchi

No fewer than 12 persons were confirmed dead and valuable properties destroyed in the flood which ravaged parts of Ganjuwa and Giade Local Government Areas of Bauchi State following the heavy rains on Sunday.

The Deputy Director of the State Emergency Management Agency​, ​SEMA, Musa Ladan​, who revealed this ​in an interview with ​journalist in Bauchi​,disclosed that some of the deceased were children.

He further disclosed that four people were killed in Gala-Makera and Galam Baba communities in Miya District area of Ganjuwa local government while eight persons also lost their lives as a result of flood in Gulbuk community in Giade local government area of the state.

He said, “The flood killed four children who went out in the rain to wash their bodies. Unfortunately for them on their way home, they stepped on a culvert which caved in and the flood took them away.​

“People in the community were able to immediately recover the body one of the children.​ ​Two more​ bodies were recovered the following day.

“The fourth victim who lost his life in the flood was a 65​-​year​-​old farmer called Alhaji Danladi whose house collapsed due to the magnitude of the wind that accompanied the flood.”

Permanent Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Aliyu Ahmad, told reporters that a team of experts from the agency had visited the affected areas to assess the level of damage wrecked by the flood.
