Folashade Sets New Powerlifting Record To Secure Gold For Nigeria

Folashade Oluwafemiayo has won Nigeria’s third Gold medal at the Powerlifting – Women’s -86kg event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

The Nigerian secured her place as a gold medalist with her first lift of 147kg, shattering the Paralympic record of 135kg.

In her subsequent attempts, she lifted (149kg, 151kg and 152kg) breaking the Paralympic record and setting a new world record.

China’s Feifei Zheng won Silver lifting 139kg.

This will be their eighth consecutive appearance at the Summer Paralympics since 1992.

Nigeria currently are ranked 21 in the medals table with three gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
