Former IG Of Police, Adewusi Passes Away

A former Inspector-General of Police, Sunday Adewusi has passed away.

He died about 9pm on Tuesday at the National Hospital, Abuja, after a brief illness. He was aged 80.

Born in Nassarawa Eggon LGA of Nasarawa State to the family of Pa Abraham Ishola Adewusi and Princess Abeje, the late IGP began his educational career at the Church Missionary Society and Roman Catholic Mission Schools from 1944 to 1948.

He completed his Standard Six education at Baptist Day School, Jos between 1949 and 1950, after which he proceeded to Keffi for his secondary education from 1951 to 1956.

The late IG, who was also the Asiwaju of Ogbomosholand, Oyo State, headed the police during President Shehu Shagari’s tenure in the second republic between 1981 and 1983.

Before his appointment as IG, he was promoted as Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1959; Deputy Superintendent of Police in 1962; Superintendent of Police in 1963; Chief Superintendent of Police in 1967; Assistant Commissioner of Police in 1969 and Deputy Commissioner of Police in 1971.
