Fraud Allegation: Fayose Finally Regains His Freedom

Immediate past governor of Ekiti state, Peter Ayodele Fayose has regained his freedom from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), custody after meeting his bail conditions.

His spokesman, Lere Olayinka, shared the news on his Twitter handle, @OlayinkaLere, tweeted, “Fayose just regained his freedom. He left the Federal High Court, Ikoyi a few minutes ago. We will meet @officialEFCC at the court from November 19. Thank you Nigerians.”

Fayose was remanded in Ikoyi Prisons on the orders of Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of a Federal High Court Lagos after he pleaded not guilty to 11-count charge bordering on money laundering and abuse of office brought against him by the EFCC.

The EFCC had alleged that Fayose received illegal funds for his 2014 governorship campaign, among other allegations of benefiting from proceeds of money laundering.

The Ex-governor was granted bail of N50 million with one surety who was required to provide a minimum of three years tax clearance, while he was also to sign an undertaking promising not to tamper with the trial.

Subsequently, he was also asked to submit his international passport to the court.
