Fuel Hike: Buhari Directs Sylva To Roll Out Gas Powered Buses For Workers

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday directed the Minister of State for Petroluem Resources,Timipre Sylva to roll out gas powered mass transit buses to the Nigerian Labour Congress to ease the high cost of transportation caused by the increase in fuel price.

Buhari who gave the directive during the roll-out of the National Gas Expansion Programme in Abuja, said that the handover of the CNG-powered mass transport buses to the NLC is part of the agreement reached with Labour during negotiations and in recognition of the role organised Labour plays in the quest to bring relief to ordinary Nigerians.

About 100 busses is the expected to be handed over to the NLC in the first phase of the roll-out of the mass transit programme

The Federal Government’s Autogas program will deliver at least one million vehicle conversions by the end of 2021 and herald the clean energy transition for Nigeria and delivery of cheap transportation fuel

The President said the auto gas initiative will lead to economic growth and development of the country.

He urged Nigerians to embrace gas as an alternative to fuel considering the fact that the country has huge abundant of gas reserves.

The National Gas Expansion Programme is geared towards expanding the utilisation of gas resources to benefit the economy.

Nigeria, despite being one of the destinations in the world with the largest reserves of natural gas has the lowest gas penetration in Africa.
