Fuel Price Protest Rocks Ibadan As Students, Workers Vow To Resist Hike ‘With Everything’

Students, workers and members of civil society groups in Ibadan are currently protesting the hike in the price of petrol as well as the increase in the electricity tarfif.

The protesters who are armed with placards and chanting anti-government songs took off at
Awolowo Junction and are marching towards Federal Secretariat.

The protest is peaceful but the protesters who are marching on the road are slowing down vehicular movement.

Two police vans with armed personnel as well as operatives of Department of State Service are also monitoring the protest.

The Chairman, Joint Campus Committee of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Mayowa Opakunle, said students would resist the hikes with everything because they would suffer the effects more than other categories of people.

The immediate past chairman of Trade Union Congress in Oyo State, Mr Andrew Emelieze, also condemned the hike

He said workers would embark on an indefinite strike to force the government to revert to old price if the downward review was not miade by Monday.
