Adegbenro said the decision was based on the reports by the school’s panel which was assigned to investigate the incident that took place in an off-campus hostel on November 16.

According to him, the school’s 2019/2020 Students Handbook forbids its student from engaging in physical assault or battery on another student outside the university premises; and also lays out expulsion for such acts.

The expelled students are: Popoola Olaniyi, Oluwadare Faith, Nandi Yohanna, Ajuwon Tolani, Emmanuel Funmilayo and Alao Olabimpe.

“As a consequence of their expulsion their studentship of FUTA ceases forthwith with all its rights and privileges,” he said.

He also affirmed that the school’s action is in line with the rules and regulations of the university which all students signed to.

A video of students beating their school mate had gone viral online on November 17 and that sparked reactions from Nigerians who said that justice should be served to the perpetrators.
