The Special Adviser to President Adama Barrow, Mai Ahmad Fatty, who revealed this during a press conference in Senegal, further alleged that the now exiled Jammeh had looted the country by shipping out luxury vehicles by cargo plane to an undisclosed location within a fortnight to his stepping down.
“The Gambia is in financial distress. The coffers are virtually empty. That is a state of fact,” Fatty said.
“It has been confirmed by technicians in the ministry of finance and the Central Bank of the Gambia.”

It was alleged, however, that Mr. Jammeh had told the West African regional bloc, ECOWAS, the AU and other international bodies, to oblige Barrow’s administration not to persecute him, members of his cabinet and family, as part of the agreement to relinquish power to President Barrow.
But Barrow’s adviser, while denying the said agreement, told journalists that there was never an agreement to provide Jammeh, his cabinet members or family any assurance that their lawful assets would not be seized.
“As far as we’re concerned, it doesn’t exist,” Fatty said.
