Ganduje ‘Blocks’ Atiku From Using All Stadiums In Kano For Presidential Rally

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, is said to have ordered the immediate shutdown of stadiums in Kano State to allegedly deny the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubkar, from using them for his campaign rally.

Ganduje, according to reports, ordered the closure of the two major stadiums in Kano to stop Atiku from using them.

The governor is however said to have based his action on the need to renovate the stadiums.

The alleged move comes 5 days to the Kano leg of the presidential rally of the PDP candidate.

The opposition PDP is said to have fixed February 10 for Atiku’s rally in the state, whereas the renovation exercise will last till February 18.

While Ganduje’s move has been perceived as political, the spokesman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Abbati Sabo, said the stadiums closure does not have “political undertone”

“As far as I am concerned, this directive doesn’t have a political undertone. The state government was advised to renovate the stadium, ahead of the NPL season,” he said.

“The government had now heeded to the advice and ordered for the commencement of the project in order to have smooth conduct of the league. As you can see, the facility is in need of repair and the government has now answered the call its renovation,” Sabo told The Cable.
