Ghana Election: Nigeria Must Reform For Better Poll – Atiku

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Ghana president Nana Akufo-Addo on his reelection, saying that the country’s presidential election is an “eye-opener” to Nigeria.

Atiku, who lost Nigeria’s 2019 presidential election to President Muhammadu Buhari tweeted on Thursday that the Ghana poll is an example that should signal electoral reforms in the country.

“Congratulations to President @NAkufoAddo on his reelection.

“The smooth conduct of the Ghana elections should be an eye-opener to our nation.

“We must undertake far-reaching electoral reforms that address the shortcomings of our previous experiences and strengthens our electoral process,” he tweeted.

Although Addo was declared winner of the election but pockets of violence have been reported in the run up to  the announcement of final results.

The Ghana police service stated on Wednesday that 5 persons had died.

Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Ghana electoral commission, declared Addo winner of the presidential election having scored 6,730,413 votes, to beat his closet rival, former Ghana President, John Dramani Mahama, who secured 6,240,889 votes.
