This means users can now receive larger files of size up to 50MB directly in their inbox mailbox at once.
“Sending and receiving attachments is an important part of email exchanges. While Google Drive offers a convenient way to share files of any size, sometimes you need to receive large files as direct email attachments. So starting today, you will be able to receive emails of up to 50MB directly”, Google announced in a blogpost on Thursday.
However, the maximum size for an outbound attachment is still 25MB.

Google urged Gmail users to use Google drive to send larger files of size up to 5 TB. “… just as before, you can use Google Drive to send larger attachments.”
The full rollout of the feature is expected in the coming few days.
There is no mainstream email client that offers email attachments beyond 25 MB. Rival clients such as Outlook and Yahoo limit the attachments to 20 MB and 25 MB, respectively.
Google recently also pushed out a new update to its mail service Gmail that prohibits users from attaching JavaScript files in to their mails. The update went live on February 13, 2017 and blocks all the .js files from being uploaded and sent over mail. To send or share .js files, you can still upload them on Google Drive, Google Cloud Storage or other storage solutions and then turn on sharing on that file.
