Bavor previously spearheaded the development and design of several of Google’s apps and services, including Gmail and Google Drive.
A spokesman for Google, Joshua Cruz, confirmed Bavor’s new role on the team, via his Twitter account.
The Alphabet owned company also announced that Bavor’s former role will now be taken by Senior Vice President Diane Greene, who headed Google’s cloud computing division, Greene. Greene is also in charge of the company’s Web applications business.

At a Consumer Electronics Show last week, YouTube’s Chief Business Officer Robert Kyncl said virtual reality would dramatically change the mobile viewing experience and predicted it would grow “exponentially.”
In May last year, the company announced a partnership with action-camera maker GoPro to enable 360 degree view in virtual reality, using a new technology that Google had developed.
In 2014, Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook acquired Oculus, a virtual reality company, the company has started accepting pre-orders for its much-awaited virtual reality headset, Rift, which will ship in Q1.
