Gov Abdulrazaq, Foreign Affairs Minister Discuss Repatriation Of Kwara Citizens Caught In Human Trafficking
Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on Tuesday met with the Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama to discuss ways to repatriate Kwarans that have been trafficked to other countries.
Recall that the governor’s spokesperson, Rafiu Ajakaye had said three suspects including two Nigerians and a Lebanese had been arrested in connection with the trafficking of a citizen of the state, Omolola Ajayi, to Lebanon.
According to the Kwara-based lady, she thought she was coming to Lebanon to teach English but discovered she had been deceived upon arriving in the country.
However, Ajayi was reported to have regained her freedom on Monday, January 13.
A statement by Ajakaye also quoted the governor to have discussed how the state can collaborate with the Ministry to benefit from Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) “particularly in the area of enterprise, agro-processing, human capital development, and others.”
AbdulRazaq also told the minister of his administration plans to open up an alternate West African route by linking Bode Saadu to Kaiama and Chikanda Road which empties into the country’s border with the northern axis of the Benin Republic.“The highway will effectively link Nigeria’s North Central to West Africa and will be an alternative to the West Africa highway which is a coastal road,” the statement said.
