Gov Tambuwal Tackles Jonathan Over Claim On Why He Joined APC In 2015

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has faulted former president Goodluck Jonathan’s claim on why he (Tambuwal) defected from the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015.

Jonathan, in his new book ‘My Transition Hours’, claimed that Tambuwal, who was the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, and others had defected to the APC because they nurtured “blinded ambitions”.

But faulting the former president’s claim, Tambuwal, through his Director General, Media and Publicity, Abubakar Shekau, said he only responded to the yearnings of his supporters at the time by defecting to then opposition party.

“If he had blind ambition, he would have retain the number four position he had at hand. He rather jettisoned his comfort position to run for governorship,” said Shekarau

Justifying Tambuwal’s return to PDP, Shekara said, “it is clear that PDP has learnt their lessons and today, the table has turned, APC has become PDP.”

In the book, Jonathan had also accused Tambuwal of being among those who frustrated his administration’s success by conveying the lower legislative chamber on a Sunday at the peak of the nationwide protest against the removal of subsidy.

But reacting, another media aide of the Governor, Hon. Akibu Dalhatu, said, “For the Speaker to convene the House of Representatives, on Sunday, was because they have matter of urgency to deliberate on and for the fact that former President Goodluck Jonathan stated that it had never happened before, there is always a first time in everything.

“To the best of my knowledge, the House convened on a Sunday, basically because of a matter of public importance that has to do with hike in fuel price, which Nigerians outrightly rejected.

“Did such protest not called for matter of urgent importance or should they have folded their arms and allow protesters throw the nation into chaos?” Akibu asked.
