Gov Wike Commended For Stamping Insecurity In Rivers
The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has commended the State Governor, Nyesom Wike for ridding the State of insecurity which was instigated by the former governor of the State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
The PDP Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah in a statement released on his behalf by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam, said that the current and enduring steps, taken by Governor Nyesom Wike towards containing the menace of insecurity in the State are highly commendable.
Obuah listed some of the steps taken by Wike to include the anti-kidnapping law, the massive support given to security agencies in the State and the donation of 64 patrol vans, fully equipped with security gadgets and 500 raincoats to the Rivers State Police Command and other security agencies, as well as cash rewards for the family of any security officer felled in the line of duty and anyone who provides useful information to the police for the arrest of criminals in the State.

He said all these are worthwhile incentives and commendable steps by Governor Wike aimed at fighting crimes in the State. The PDP Chairman recalled that under Amaechi’s administration, all manner of criminalities were legalized and institutionalized while lawlessness became the order of the day.
They stated that this was stimulated because of his (Amaechi’s) refusal to call for security meetings with Security Chiefs in the State. According to the State PDP Boss, Some other actions of Amaechi that encouraged multiplication of crimes in the State includes the withholding and mismanagement of security votes and leaving the then Police Commissioner without funds and support.
“The courts were also closed for over a year, criminals encouraged and placed on payroll of government and those who were arrested by the police and detained for prosecution in courts were released and set free on the directive of Rotimi Amaechi.
“Youths were extremely equipped with dangerous weapons and recruited by Rotimi Amaechi to prosecute the All Progressives Congress, APC elections in the State. “Rivers State under Rotimi Amaechi was under seizure. Rivers people lived in fear and tension.

Senior citizens were haunted and rubbished. Charlatans who did the bidding of Amaechi took over governance and local government councils in the State. Residents were helpless and defenceless, and sleeping with their eyes open.” Obuah said.
Obuah however assured Rivers people and Nigerians that governor Wike is winning the war against insecurity in the State, noting that in no distant time, insecurity will be reduced to the barest minimum in Rivers State.
