Governor Vows Not To Pay Salaries After Visiting Hospitals Without Doctors

Governor Babagana Umaru Zulum of Borno State has expressed the resolve of the government to pay salaries to only workers who carry out their official assignment in the state.

He also disclosed that due civil service procedure shall be followed to bring the situation to normalcy.

The governor stated this on his twitter handle after he paid an unannounced visit to the State Specialist and Umaru Shehu Hospitals in Maiduguri, the state capital where he did not see any doctor on duty.

The post read: “The government will henceforth only pay those that are working and due civil service procedure shall be followed to bring back the situation to normalcy, In Sha Allah”

According to reports, Zulum called some of the doctors on phone at the Hospital nut none of them answered the call.

He also expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of services being provided to patients on admission.

Reports also noted that he queried the Chief Medical Director, CMD of the Umaru Shehu Ultra-Modern Hospital to explain why absentee doctors should not face disciplinary action.

He also directed the CMD to suspend the staff that were not on ground at the time of his visit.

The is the second time, according to reports, that the governor paid unscheduled visits to a hospital in the state.

Recall that in June 23, two medical doctors were suspended by Zulum for being absent on duty at the General Hospital in Biu Local Government Area.

The governor also suspended another for trying to cover for the absentee doctors.

The governor suspended the medical staff during an unscheduled visit to the General Hospital to obtain first-hand knowledge of their operations as part of his tour of all local government areas in the state.
