A non-governmental organization, Peace and Media Support Initiative has urged the new minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam. Mohamed Musa Bello, not to be distracted by the antics of fifth columnists, hell-bent on tarnishing the laudable achievements of the former FCT minister, Senator Bala Mohammed.

This was contained in a statement, signed by the national coordinator of the group, Comrade James Okoronkwo.

Okoronkwo, who said that Sen. Mohammed served diligently, meritoriously and transparently as the minister of the Federal Capital Territory administration, advised the new Minister to discard the calls by vendetta – seeking politicians manipulating youth groups that are advocating the probe of the former FCT minister.

The group, while congratulating the new FCT Minister on his well- deserved appointment noted that Senator Bala Mohammed transformed the Federal Capital Territory despite obvious challenges of paucity of funds.

According to them, the former minister’s stewardship in the FCT eliminated land racketeering with the setting-up of a committee headed by Senator Saidu Dansadau.

“This remarked feat led to the upgrading and visible repositioning of land administration in the federal capital territory,” they said.

Listing some of the achievement of the former minister, Okoronkwo said, “Before the advent of the Senator Bala Mohammed-led administration road infrastructure in the FCT was at a rudimentary and poor state. He and his able team completed the reconstruction, modernization and expansion of 10 – lane multiple carriage super highways: – Umaru Musa Yar’Adua (Airport Road) expressway including the dualization of the hitherto accident-prone Nyanya – Abuja expressway.

“The Bala Mohammed administration successfully undertook the resurfacing / reconstruction of dilapidated roads in Garki and Wuse Districts.

“Bala Mohammed also expanded the Kuje – Gwagwalada road as well as constructed the Gitata Bypass; Karshi – Apo Bypass, Sunrise City – Guzape Bypass, Gwagwalada – Dobi link road including the building and rehabilitation of township roads in Bwari area council.

“The former FCT administration solved the intractable and perennial problem of portable water supply in the area through the completion of the Gurara – Lower Usman Dam road that connects the FCT with Kaduna State at Jere: this commendable project ensured the completion of work on Tanks 1 and 6 with 40,000 cubic centimeters storage capacity.”

The pro-democracy activist noted with sadness that a band of disillusioned youths under aegis of Northeast Youth Advocacy for Peace and Development (NOYAPED) are mischievously pretending to be oblivious of the fact that Bala Mohammed boosted the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) profile of the Federal Capital Territory Administration by facilitating the swift passage of the FCT Internal Revenue Bill by the national assembly.

“This innovative and positive accomplishment has generated additional revenue for the present administration to cushion the effect of decreasing federal allocation occasioned by low crude oil price in the global market,” they said.

Okoronkwo stated that Bala Mohammed deserves nothing less than accolades, noting that the former FCT administration acquired several ambulances and medical equipment to improve the provision of quality health – care delivery in the government hospitals to the people and residents of the nation’s capital.

“Traffic congestion and sheer chaos were common features of FCT roads but through a sagacious, holistic, transparent and effective installation of traffic control systems as well as boosting the staff strength and morale of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (VIO) – this project has consigned these traffic problems to the dust bin of history,” Okoronkwo said.

The group appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the completion of the Abuja Light Rail Project as well as the other numerous people-oriented projects of the former FCT administration.

They further advised the current FCT minister to discountenance the call of the so-called myopic and vendetta-seeking youth group baying for the innocent blood of the former FCT minister.
