Guardiola Banned For Two Champions League Games

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been suspended by UEFA for two Champions League games for his conduct in the defeat by Liverpool.

Recall the Spaniard was charged by UEFA with improper conduct after he was sent off at half-time for angrily protesting against the referee decision in the quarter-final second leg at Etihad Stadium on 10 April.

The City boss was seen shouting angrily at referee Antonio Miguel Mateu Lahoz over Leroy Sane’s disallowed goal in the match that later ended 2-1 (5-1 aggregate) in favour of the Reds. Lahoz later sent him to the stands

“The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has decided to suspend the Manchester City FC head coach Josep Guardiola for two UEFA competition matches in which he would otherwise participate, one of which is deferred during a probationary period of one season,” a statement confirming this suspension read.

Guardiola will now miss City’s opening group stage match of the 2018/19 Champions League campaign.

This will not be the first time Guardiola is facing disciplinary action as the former Barcelona coach was charged by the Football Association in February for “wearing a political message, specifically a yellow ribbon”

He wore the ribbon in a show of support for Jordi Sanchez and Jordi Cuixart, two activists who were imprisoned in October.

Meanwhile Liverpool were also hammered by the European football’s governing body, as they were fined £25,450 over three crowd incidents during the quarter-finals and semi-finals.
