Gunmen Abduct Seven Transport Union Workers In Osun

Armed men have reportedly kidnapped seven transport union workers at Iwaraja Junction along the Ilesa/Akure Expressway in Atakunmosa West Local Government Area, Osun State.

Our correspondent gathered that the kidnappers struck on Monday while the victims were travelling from Osun State to Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Sources said the gunmen later released three of the abducted officials including two females.

They were reported to have asked the freed officials to go and look for ransom before the remaining four would be released from their captivity.

A source said security agents including members of the Odua People Congress, Amotekun Corps and other security agents had started combing the forest around the Iwaraja Junction where the abduction took place to rescue the four remaining victims.

The Osun State Coordinator of the OPC, Deji Aladesawe, confirmed the abduction to journalists on Tuesday

He said, “The kidnappers released three of the victims to go look for money while they held the remaining four.

Those released said their.abductors told them that they are not armed robbers but Fulani herdsmen looking for money. The kidnapper told them that they are looking for money, so they should go and bring money so that they can free the remaining victims.”

The OPC coordinator said the remaining victims would be rescued from the kidnappers .

The Commander Amotekun Corps in Osun State, Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (retd.), also confirmed the kidnap of the transport workers.

He said efforts were ongoing to ensure their release.
