Gunmen Kidnap Former Imo Speaker, Businessman, Others

A former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Lawman Duruji, has been kidnapped in the state.

Duruji was kidnapped at Oriagu in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state on Saturday, while returning from a function.

In a series of abductions reported in Imo at the weekend, a popular Owerri-based businessman known as Ezzybee was kidnapped on Sunday while on his way to see a local football match.

The wife of a former chairman of Okigwe Local Government Area, Frank Onwunere, was reportedly kidnapped while an unidentified person was kidnapped at Okwelle junction in the Onuimo LGA of the state.

Also, some unidentified persons were kidnapped at Umbomiri junction in Mbaitoli LGA and Amaraku in Mbano LGA.

When contacted, the Imo State police public relation officer, Micheal Abattam, said that the command was on the trail of the kidnappers.

He said that one of the victims who was kidnapped at Ubomiri had already been rescued by the police.
