Gwagwalada Looting: 3 Feared Dead As Police Yet To Confirm Casualty

Three dead bodies have reportedly been found in the Gwagwalada warehouse invaded by residents on Monday, an eye witness has told THE WHISTLER.

The source who pleaded not to be mentioned, said the bodies were found in the warehouse after looters had left the warehouse where covid-19 palliatives were stored.

This website had earlier reported that residents of Gwagwalada had invaded a warehouse in the vicinity, carting away all relief materials therein, including rice and cartons of spaghetti and Maggi cubes.

The warehouse is located beside a WAEC office along the Gwagwalada Area Council road in the Federal Capital Territory.

The source, who is a resident of the area, said the deaths may have resulted “from a stampede” as the crowd was overwhelming.

“Ok, let me start from the top. I have got like three of my friends who made their way into the warehouse and they confirmed there are dead bodies inside”.

When our correspondent demanded evidence, the source said “I can’t go inside as I speak. Many people didn’t go there with their phones.

“The three of them were not together as they spoke to me on different occasion. I was asked not to tell anybody that there are dead bodies in the warehouse but they have rushed some people to the hospitals.

“And I also have one confirmed casualty. My neighbour and I can’t take his picture, please. He was trying to gain access too. I was just at home when they called me that he can’t walk. He has a dislocated knee”.

According to the source, security operatives who had earlier made effort to disperse the looters by spraying teargas canisters, gave up as the crowd became uncontrollable.

“Initially the military guys were tear-gasing them. That was about it but there was no gunshot. So later the crowd was too much and the military men got tired and could not contain it”.

The source disclosed that security operatives got overwhelmed and just allowed the looting to go on.

Reacting to the situation, the FCT Police spokesperson, ASP Mariam Yusuf, noted she was unaware of the development.

“Please let me confirm this. I am not aware and perhaps I am currently in a meeting now,” Yusuf said.
