Heavy Downpour Destroys 100 Houses In Buhari’s Hometown

Many are feared displaced after a heavy downpour on Sunday reportedly destroyed 100 houses in President Muhammadu Buhari’s hometown of Daura, Katisina State.

Houses in Rahamawa, Kalgo, Lungun Kofar Baru, Sarkin Yara ‘A’ ward and Unguwar Kaura were also said to have been destroyed during the rain that lasted the whole day.

The heavy downpour was accompanied with forceful winds which removed the roofs of houses and caused the walls of some buildings to collapse.

Personal belongings such as cloths, electronics and food items of the residents were said to have also been destroyed during the heavy rains.

Punch quoted a pensioner, Ahidjo Lawan, as saying the downpour damaged at least fifty houses at Kalgo community.

“We are still salvaging our property from the debris of the damaged houses in my area here at Kalgo. The heavy downpour could not allow us to do much as it rained throughout the day,” said Lawan.
