Hindus, Muslims Clash In India As Prime Minister Calls For Calm
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has urged citizens to tolerate religious differences in the nation, following a series of clashes between Muslims and Hindus.
Narendra Modi tweeted this on Wednesday.
Modi said only peaceful coexistence could culminate in a progressive nation.
The crisis, which turned violent, may not be unconnected with the Indian citizenship Act of 2019
THE WHISTLER reported that India’s cabinet had approved a bill to grant religious-based nationality to refugees persecuted in neighboring countries; but the new law did not include migrants of the Muslim faith.
BBC reports that twenty-three people have been killed so far in the clashes which broke out on Sunday between protesters for and against a controversial citizenship law.
Online videos also showed people moving out their belongings from tensed areas.
