Host Community Bars NLNG Staff From Company Premises In Rivers

Workers of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) have been barred from gaining access into their premises by protesting Indigenes of Finima Town in Bonny Kingdom over alleged failure of the multinational gas company to implement host community rights.

The protest, which started on Thursday, continued today with both old and young carrying placards in front of the NLNG entrance chanting “Give us our right NLNG”.

According to one of the protesters (name withheld) who spoke to THE WHISTLER, “We have been receiving series of excuses from the company to ensure they implement our right as host community but all have not yielded any positive result.

“Our agreed slots for employment of our youths yearly are not being implemented. Infrastructures as promised have not been put in place and so many other things.

“We have through our leaders and Chiefs written to them severally but they have equally paid deaf ears.

“We cannot have such multinational entity in our land and beg for our supposed right which was duely agreed.

“We resorted to embark on this protest so they can understand we are serious.”

The protest later turned violent when security personnel tried to disperse the crowd.

Many of the protesters sustained varying degrees while a bus belonging to the Finima Youth Assembly was burnt.
