House Of Reps Summons Power, Labour Ministers Over Electricity Workers Strike

The House of Representatives has summoned the Ministers of Power and Labour, Saleh Mamman and Chris Ngige to meet with it over the strike embarked upon by Electricity workers in the country.

The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) on Wednesday embarked on an indefinite strike.

According to the Assistant Secretary-General of the union, Anthony Sule in a statement, said the 21-day ultimatum given to the minister of power, Mamman expired at midnight on Tuesday.

This industrial actions follows failure by the federal government   to dialogue with the union to resolve the lingering industrial crisis in the sector.

Moving a motion, Representative Toby Okechukwu said the grievances of the workers borders around the underpayment of salaries and other issues.

Reacting to the motion, the Speaker of the house, Femi Gbajabiamila directed the clerk to invite the two ministers as well as the Director General of pensions to meet the leadership of the house.

The house resolved that the ministers will make sure the issues with the generating companies are settled because of the resultant effect of total blackout on the socio-economic conditions of the people.
